Traditional Christmas through the Eyes of a Child

On behalf of our clients Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Marketing, VM+ and The Prop House are proud to unveil the beautiful “Traditional Christmas through the eyes of a Child”  concept in the Brisbane CBD. We were privileged to design, build and install the Lord Mayor’s incredible Christmas gift to the people of Brisbane and introduce a wonderfully nostalgic Christmas feel into the city’s favourite shopping district.

Our VM+ Christmas stylist, Heather Davern headed up the creative team and was inspired by vintage glass blown ornaments when designing the traditional concept. The six giant custom made ornaments, standing up to 4m tall, reflect decorations that would feature on a Christmas tree of a bygone era. To pay tribute to the Queensland Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker we even included a giant Nutcracker which sits facing George St, QPAC and the Southbank Cultural District.

We also designed, manufactured and installed an abundance of graphic red and white candy striped twirls and finials to introduce movement and energy, while creating a connection between the decorations throughout the mall.

The installation was our biggest production this Christmas season. We installed over 40,000 LED bud lights into the trees and garden beds and attached more than 200m of lit and decorated garlands onto the various restaurants within the Queen St Mall.

The masterpiece required more than 400 man hours over 7 nights and 5 pieces of high access equipment! But if we do say so ourselves, the result was well worth it and has definitely brought the Christmas spirit to the CBD! Don’t forget to see it for yourself and head into Brisbane Queen St Mall at night for the full effect of ornaments, twirls and fairy lights!
